Espirito Da Paz accordingly sounds far more passionate than the plethora of emergent world musical-market recordings by artists seeking to preserve pristine autochthonous styles via a nearly anthropological relationship with their material. Vocalist Teresa Salgueiro works wonders with the earthy lyrics of guitarist Pedro Ayres Magelhaes and cellist Francisco Ribeiro; she languorously stretches each diphthong and each soft consonant so that a simple 21-word lyric like "Amargura" can take over three and a half minutes to deliver.
